There’s no doubt that Germans love Bollywood films. And Bollywood’s presence at the Berlin Film Festival has only increased in recent years bringing the German audience even more close to the Bollywood. SRK starrer ‘Don 2’ was shot extensively in Berlin.

Though Indians may be used to hearing more about the Cannes, there are other film festivals as well (Berlin or Venice) that share a good relationship with Bollywood. Alia Bhatt’s (daughter of Mahesh Bhatt) grandmother was born in Berlin (in 1929). Sadly, she had to leave Berlin in 1937. Alia’s great grandfather used to run an underground newspaper against Hitler. He was found out and imprisoned for two years. So Alia’s grandmother & her mother walked across the border to Czechoslovakia, and then found sanctuary from persecution as refugees in England!”
