Sarees can be expensive, but some of them can be really priced exorbitantly. Nita Ambani has sarees that costs as much as 40 lakh rupees. She was spotted at a wedding recently wearing one of those expensive saris and that has even been noted by the Guinness book of world record as the world’s costliest saree.
The opulent, Rs.4 million sari, weighs 8 kilograms and is known as the ‘Vivaah Patu’ sari. It took 36 skilled craftsmen, 12 months of labour at Chennai Silk Mills in Kancheepuram to hand-weave this expensive sari, as it also featured eleven paintings of Indian art icon Raja Ravi Varma.
But why would it still be priced so high? Because, the embroidery is made from real gold threads and it uses precious stones such as Navratna stones, Diamonds, Emerald, Ruby, Yellow Sapphire, Topaz, Pearl, and Coral. That also explains why it weighs around 8 kilograms (Ms. Ambani herself weighs just under 50 kgs).
Of course not everybody can afford to own such an expensive sari. However, being the wife of the richest Indian and also the owner of the ‘Mumbai Indians’ cricket team does allow Nita Ambani to such liberties though.
Nita ambani was spotted wearing that expensive sari at the wedding of the Reliance Industries’ Group CEO – Parimal Nathwani’s son in Ahmedabad.
