Chetan Bhagat accuses Anupama Chopra of looking the other way as her husband allegedly “drove (Chetan Bhagat) close to suicide.”
Chetan Bhagat always felt that he didn’t get the due credit for 3-Idiots which he feels was entirely based on his novel “Five point someone”. While he may have gotten, over it, he and Anupama Chopra (wife of Vidhu Vinod Chopra, producer of 3-Idiots) recently got into a tiff and Bhagat revisited this grievance.
Earlier, Chetan Bhagat had tweeted (aimed at the so-called “snob and elitist critics”) saying that Dil Bechara, starring Sushant Singh Rajput, is going to release so “Write sensibly. Don’t act overs mart. Don’t write rubbish. Be fair and sensible. Don’t try your dirty tricks. You have ruined enough lives. Now stop. We’ll be watching”.
Many on social media already feel that critics like Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra were unkind to Sushant in the past with their reviews on the actor’s films.
Anupama Chopra commented on Chetan Bhagat’s tweet saying “Each time you think the discourse can’t get lower, it does”.
That was when Chetan Bhagat accused her of standing by as her husband allegedly “drove (Chetan Bhagat) close to suicide.” Mr Bhagat tweeted: “Ma’am, when your husband publicly bullied me, shamelessly collected best story awards, tried denying me credit for my story and drove me close to suicide, and you just watched, where was your discourse?”

So was 3-Idiots really based on “5 point someone”?
Sharman Joshi says “3 Idiots is based on Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone but it’s not the book that you want to see in the form of a film when you go out. There are only a few points from the book in the film. Otherwise, it’s a totally different screenplay and story. There are three guys who are studying in an engineering college and there is a love interest as it is based on Chetan Bhagat’s book and so he has been given the credit for that. But the story of the film otherwise is completely different.”

Well, we think that Mr. Bhagat is being unrealistic here. The movie is based on the novel but only to some extent – 3 engineering students, the girlfriend, the friend jumping off the building, for which he was given credit.
However, there is a lot more to the movie. For example, the characters of “Chatur”, and Amir Khan’s Rancho. And the second half of the movie is entire different. Besides, Chetan Bhagat can’t be credited for the screenplay.
In fact, innovator and educationist Sonam Wangchuk deserves more credit for the film than Chetan does. He is the real Phunsukh Wangdu of ‘3 Idiots’, and it’s only recently that people in India have started recognizing him after his videos calling for boycott of Chinese products went viral.
