Several big studios in India are considering making a film on Mahabharata, including our own Bollywood filmmakers.
There’s buzz that Aamir Khan is planning a Rs 1000-crore epic film on the ancient epic. Aamir Khan is currently filming Thugs Of Hindostan and hasn’t signed any another project, perhaps to concentrate on the Mahabharata.
However, Aamir Khan is concerned after what happened to Sanjay Leela Bhansali while filming “Padmaavat”. Aamir Khan is weighing the pros and cons of doing the Mahabharata knowing he’s bound to land up in trouble with fringe groups protesting left, right and centre.
Besides, a section of social media did not like the idea of Aamir Khan’s involvement in the project because he is Muslim. Aamir’s colleague Javed Akhtar silenced the trolls with a few scathing tweets.
Meanwhile, Aamir has been talking to his friends within the industry for various roles, as he wants the star cost for the movie to be as stellar as possible. It seems even Salman Khan has been keen to do his own version of the Mahabharat, so when he heard Aamir is doing it, he offered to pitch in. Aamir is considering offering the role of Krishna to Salman says a filmmaker who is close to both the Khan superstars.
So what role will Aamir Khan play? Here’s what Aamir had said in an interview.
“My dream project is to make the Mahabharata but I’m afraid of starting the project as I know it will consume at least 15-20 years of my life. My favourite character is Karna, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to play him due to my physique. I may just have to play Krishna. I also liked the character of Arjun. He was the only person who asked Krishna why he had to kill his own people,” Amir Khan.
Few sews sites had reported that Aamir Khan was in talks with Reliance Industries Chief Mukesh Ambani for producing the movie. Insiders say the movie will be on the lines of Hollywood’s The Lord of the Rings or the Game of Thrones, in terms of production value. International writers will work on the script to give it a global appeal.
Earlier, the Malayalam film industry had also announced a whopping Rs 1,000-crore budget for their upcoming movie on Mahabharata. The budget of the film will be more than five times that of Baahubali: The Beginning.
Even filmmaker SS Rajamouli had expressed his desire to make the Mahabharata and Aamir Khan had said he would “love to collaborate” with the Baahubali director.
