Here’s why Indians consider Akshaya Tritiya an auspicious day and why they buy gold on this day.

Akshaya Tritiya is also known as Akha Teej, and not just Hindus but also Jains consider this day auspicious. People keep fast on this day, for Lord Vishnu, and pray to god for their children’s happiness and health.

  • When the pandavas were in exile, Lord Krishna gave the Akshaya Patra (a utensil) to Draupadi as well as to his friend Sudama, which would ensure they would never go hungry.
  • Its also believed that on Akshaya Tritiya, Lord Ganesha and Veda Vyas started writing the Mahabharata.

People buy gold on Akshaya Tritiya because its believed to bring prosperity and more wealth in the future.

Indians, in general, believe that Gold never diminishes in value and brings in prosperity.
