Bhoot Haunted Ship (Part one) lacks depth in its screenplay, gets repetitive after some time, and doesn’t give you the chills. The movie is unlikely to do well at the box-office.
The audience today expects some story in the film, even if its a horror movie, which this movie lacks. The screenplay gets repetitive after some time. Even the scary scenes are not really scary.
Bhoot Part One – The Haunted Ship is slow in the first half, picks up pace a bit in the second half, but still comes up as a disappointment overall.
Surprisingly, the makers of the film have titled this as part one (over-confidence perhaps?). Ideally, they should have waited for the film to do well, and then come up with the second part.
Vicky Kaushal is good, but sadly the plot lets you down. Bhoot Haunted Ship is unlikely to do well at the box office.
Here are reviews of the film by other critics.

Fails to live up to its title… Weak writing… Lethargic pace… Few scares… Exhausting second half… Unconvincing backstory… #VickyKaushal is the only plus here. #BhootReview

I settled in thinking that Bollywood would finally deliver an efficient horror movie – it might not have the layers and craft of a Tumbbad but it would pack enough frights and twists to keep you hooked. Sadly, no such luck. Bhanu plays with the usual horror tropes – creaking doors, found footage, mirrors, children, dolls and cell-phones not working exactly when you need them. Which isn’t the problem. You pretty much sign up for this when you go into a horror film. The trouble is that beyond the first hour, the screenplay gets repetitive and increasingly silly.

While the film’s runtime is short, the pace seems exhausting because most of the scenes are concluded abruptly, leaving you waiting for the big reveal. However, the all-important backstory isn’t convincing enough to make your wait worth it. For a horror film, ‘Bhoot Part One The Haunted Ship’ falls short of sending chills down your spine. At best, it can give you a few spooks.

Within its murky labyrinth, with no sense of any direction from writer-director Bhanu Pratap Singh, the film doesn’t seem to end. There is a ghost, a love story, a hate story, a smuggling ring, a church, a red dress, a doll, and a lot of clicking of fingers. Pednekar and Rana are there to add some brief acting heft, and to do some mantra-reciting ghost-fighting. A large part, however, is left to the able and much-taxed shoulders of Kaushal.
