For those who are not aware, Wales is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. If you’re in Great Britain and looking for opportunities to escape into nature, Wales offers several of them. Although it’s not ‘wild’ in the classic sense, there are plenty of things to explore, such as mountains, river valleys, cliffs and more. Tourists from England come to Wales every year for hiking.
Bollywood Movies Shot in Wales
Bollywood may not have yet fully capitalised on what Wales has to offer, but there have been a few movies in the past that has been shot here.
Bollywood movies shot in Wales include Maine Dil Tujhko Diya, Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Main Aaya, Kyun Ho Gaya Naa.
Locations where Indian filmmakers have shot include the Caerphilly Castle and the Dolbadarn Castle in Llanberis, Gwynedd.
Need for Better Marketing
Bollywood actor Raj Verma, who has acted in a few Bollywood films (child actor in ‘Muqaddar ka Sikander’, did a role in Sharaabi, etc.), and is now settled in Wales, feels that Wales, with its mix of dramatic scenery and ancient castles, should be attracting more Bollywood filmmakers here.
Mr Verma believes that the Wales Screen Commission (WSC), armed with a better marketing plan, should be able to attract more Bollywood productions, and subsequently tourists, in Wales.
However a Welsh government spokesman feels otherwise. He said, “Our relationship with Bollywood is already well established, with a number of films having already been made here in Wales. We want to build on this relationship and continue to promote our stunning countryside, great mountains and beaches as a backdrop for productions.”
Wales in Bollywood
Although Bollywood may not be very popular across Wales, the Asian communities there (especially in Cardiff) often have all kinds of activities that are inspired by Bollywood. They often go to watch Bollywood films that are showed at the big multi-plexes.
In some cases, they even book places like Chapter Arts Centre for a special Bollywood screening.
There are several dance classes in Wales that offer Bollywood/Bhangra classes (both for learning as well as exercising), where you get to do dance moves on a fantastic range of sounds, including traditional Indian soundtracks, latest Bollywood trends, and more.
