Shot over a week, the film takes you through a tour of the Queen Mary 2, the iconic cruise ship that recently underwent refurbishment (to mark the anniversary when the original Queen Mary set sail to become a symbol of British elegance).

The ad film makers tried to keep it realistic by following the journey of a dozen actual guests traveling between Southampton, Britain and New York (not all of them are actors in the ad film).

Dil Dhadakne Do team aboard the cruise ship…

The movie is shot in different areas of the ship, like the various restaurants and bars, lobby areas with glass lifts, auditoriums, swimming pools and open decks. The hospital facilities available on the ship ‘Sovereign’ and even the restricted areas such as the Bridge from where the Captain controls the ship, are shown in the movie.

Bollywood Stars on SuperStar Virgo

Bollywood actors Neil Nitin Mukesh and Evelyn Sharma were recently spotted in Hong Kong, and they did experience the magic offered aboard the SuperStar Virgo, a luxury cruise liner from Star Cruises.

The actors enjoyed the cruise’s facilities, dining at some of the cruise’s many restaurants, going shopping at CDF – the on-board duty free store, and relaxed in the Library and by the Parthenon Pool. Onboard the cruise, they caught the show at The Lido Theatre where acrobats, gymnasts and mimes put up a spectacular feast for the eyes, every night.

Evelyn went for a relaxing foot massage at the Reflexology Lounge while Neil tries his hands at golf at the mini golf course.

The actors also managed to get a glimpse of the machinery that makes the luxury ship run. “It’s quite intimidating to see all the equipment. It’s incredible how they operate a ship of this size,” said Neil.

Also on board was Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter, Shweta Nanda (along with her daughter Navya). Shweta is married to Raj Kapoor’s daughter Ritu Nanda’s son, Nikhil Nanda.

Some time back, the charming couple had gone on a 15-day Mediterranean cruise that covered several places in Spain, Italy and France. it was the first time Neetu had been on a cruise.

“I had never been on the sea. Life on the sea is an addiction. When I wake up in the morning, I still think I am on the cruise. We had a few friends and relatives accompanying us and we had great fun,” said Neetu.

And which places did they go?

“We went to Barcelona, Gibraltar, Florence, Cannes and Vigo. We used to take a boat from the ship to the port and come back to the ship within a few hours. Seeing these places was quite an experience.

There was every possible facility on the ship and I pampered myself no end. The food was good; the staff was excellent and so was the entertainment. Rishi and I even went to the gym together. It was so nice to be away from the hectic life of Mumbai for a few days that we have already decided to go for a similar holiday next year.”

While holidaying in Florence, Rishi and Neetu met daughter Riddhima, who was holidaying there with husband Bharat Sawhney. “That was another good thing that happened. We spent quality time with Riddhima and Bharat,” said Neetu.

Why was Ranbir missing on the cruise holiday?

Neetu said, “He did not come with us but on hearing what a great time we had, he intends to accompany us next year.”

Dil Dhadakne Do: Another Landmark Bollywood Travel Film in the Making?

Zoya Akhtar and crew shoot the film on a cruise which was sailing through countries like Spain, Italy, France, and Tunisia. The visuals are for sure gorgeous, at times just breathtaking, and at the same time capture the essence of the cities – their culture and the vibe.

At one particular shoot in Sophia Museum, Istanbul, the tourists and staff present in the museum were roped in to shoot for that particular sequence. This is what we call a double whammy for the tourists considering they got to spend 6 long hours with all their favorite actors and also be a part of the movie.

Turkey is the New Favorite

Turkey currently seems to be the new favorite of Bollywood filmmakers. The crew shot the film at places such as Taksim Square, Galata street, Eminonu Promenade.

The production team did a great job and had acquired filming permissions much in advance to ensure everything proceeded smoothly when shooting the film.

Says Zoya, “Can you imagine the hole crew is in a new country everyday? That’s how its like on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean?” Zoya thinks everybody is going to remember the shoot for a long time and thanked Excel Entertainment for pulling it off.

Cruise Tour Operators Want to Cash In

Foreign tour operators are taking every effort to capitalize on the popular destinations shown in ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ (unlike Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, where most in the travel business were caught of-guard and couldn’t capitalize earlier on the success of the film). Most in the travel business are being proactive this time and are trying to capitalize on the early success of Zoya Akhtar’s film, to boost their travel business.

Leading travel agencies have already created a special cruise trip offering a visit to all the beautiful places shown in the movie. Most of the movie has been filmed on a cruise across the Mediterranean Sea, filming at several beautiful locations.

Experts believe that ‘cruise liners’ could be the biggest beneficiaries from the success of the movie.

“The numbers of Indians travelling on cruise liners is miniscule, and even assuming that there are 10 million Indian tourists who travel abroad every year, the number is dismal,” said the Indian representative of Royal Caribbean, one of the big-name international cruise companies operating in India. “We are hoping the movie will boost some interest in the sector.”

A cruise works best for those travelers who prefer to see things at a relaxed pace, and don’t want to cram up their itineraries. Besides, a cruise liner has enough activities on board to keep travelers entertained.

Tour operators are aware how the success of ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ (ZNMD) boosted Spain’s tourism, and they’re hoping a repeat performance with ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’. “After ZNMD, travel agents were surprised. However, this time they have acted prior only”.
