
Although Dangal / Aamir Khan walked away with the honours at the Filmfare 2017 awards (all the major awards including Best Director and Best Actor went to Dangal), many feel that the movie actually should not have been included in the nominations because it was released in the last week of 2016. The outcome and impact of the movie was felt in the beginning of 2017.
Amitabh Bachchan’s Pink, Sushant Singh Rajput’s MS Dhoni were other contenders who also deserved to win but couldn’t. Many were seriously expecting Sushant Singh Rajput to win (for his superb performance in Dhoni).
Also, Shahid Kapoor was given the critics’ award for Udta Punjab, and Sonam Kapoor was the critics’ choice for best actress for Neerja. But weren’t both these movies commercial films? These awards could have been given to smaller budget films.
For instance, Manoj Bajpai won awards for Aligarh and for Taandav in the newly-introduced category of awards for short films, and it was the right choice.
