‘Gay Scene’ in Disney’s movie ‘Beauty and the Beast’ troubles several countries; say the scene is inappropriate for children.
First, Russia banned the film (for kids aged under 16) because of its gay character, and now Malaysia may also miss out on seeing the movie.
“We have approved it but there is a minor cut involving a gay moment. It is only one short scene but it is inappropriate because many children will be watching this movie,” says Abdul Halim (Film Censorship Board Chairman).
“Seeing two men holding hands and grabbing tongues, is a bit too much for an adult, let alone a child to see,” one comment on Twitter.
Disney officials have now postponed the release of the movie in Malaysia for an “internal review” (probably they assumed the scene would be accepted by other cultures) .
The film’s characters include manservant LeFou, who “is confused about his sexuality,” according to director Bill Condon. Condon has described a brief scene as a “gay moment.”
