Govinda, who gave several super-hit films in the 90s, is trying hard to establish his second innings in Bollywood. He has done a few films recently, but those haven’t made much of an impact to his career yet.
We just hope that he gets a good script/role as he is too talented to be kept out of the industry. Govinda, despite a brief stint in Politics, has no intentions of going back to Politics.
Govinda & David Dhawan don’t see eye-to-eye, Varun caught in the cross-fire
Once considered the Midas-pair, Govinda and David Dhawan don’t see eye-to-eye any more, and caught in the cross-fire is the young Varun Dhawan (son of David Dhawan).
Govinda, who is desperately trying to resurrect his career has a big grouse against his former bestie, filmmaker David Dhawan. Govinda feels (he even mentioned in an interview) that David Dhawan turned his back on him, when his chips were down.
While David avoids any such questions, its his son Varun who’s left to answer such awkward question on David & Govinda’s equation.
But Varun seems to have learnt the art of diplomacy quite early in life (I guess that’s one of the skills he acquired while working as an Assistant Director).
Varun Dhawan says that he has grown up watching his father’s films, starring Govinda and Salman Khan, and says that he still holds the former star in high regard, despite his issues with daddy Dhawan. “It (his comments) doesn’t affect the fact that I like his work. I am a fanboy forever.”
David Dhawan and Govinda, Once the Midas Pair at the Box-Office, No Longer See Eye-to-Eye
They were once the Midas jodi (pair) at the box-office, everything they touched turned into gold. Some of Govinda’s best comedy films (Coolie No 1, Raja Babu, Bade Miyaan Chhote Miyaan, Hero No 1, and Partner) have been directed by David Dhawan. However, after giving so many hits together, its difficult to believe that Govinda an David Dhawan have not spoken to each other for years.
Things have turned so bad between David Dhawan and Govinda that they don’t even see eye-to-eye. Recently, when Govinda and his daughter Tina were headed to a Cafe in suburban Juhu for a photo shoot with a leading magazine, on seeing their manager, director David Dhawan (who was lunching with his wife Lali) hastily left the eatery.
So what made their friendship go sour?
When asked, Govinda said, “No, I don’t want to work with David as he didn’t stand by me during my bad phase. When a person thinks that you are not competent enough to do his film or work with him, one should not ask for work from that person.”
Well, perhaps Govinda doesn’t realize that David Dhawan is also a father and his children are now grown up. And like any other father, David wants to help his children in their career. And that is probably one reason why he is unable to offer something to Govinda.
“I think the love between us that has been there over the years should remain the same. We have not worked together for many years. I have nothing to do with his films nor do I discuss his films. Currently, he is a proud father; let him be happy,” said Govinda.
There’s another story that suggests why things have gone wrong between the two.
After having extensively spoken about modeling son Varun’s character Sinu on Govinda in Main Tera Hero, David Dhawan forgot to invite Govinda and his family to special screenings that was held.
A common friend of the filmmaker and actor candidly says: “Govinda was deeply upset. More so because the publicity campaign of the films was pegged around the fact that Varun’s character Sinu was a tribute to Govinda. But the actor was never invited to a screening of the film. Govinda had expressed his disappointment in earlier interviews but David never got around to talking to him.”
Actor Varun Dhawan (son of David Dhawan) shared an incident on a reality show, when Mr Dhawan was directing him in Main Tera Hero. After working with Govinda, his father would just not be satisfied with whatever he would deliver in the course of his shot and most of the times he would end up saying, ‘That’s not how Govinda would have done it’, read a statement.
“Govinda sir has spoilt my dad. As an actor, he has set such high standards that it is extremely difficult to reach up to that level. After having worked with him in numerous blockbusters, my dad kept expecting the same perfection and madness that Govinda ji used to bring to his performances and dance moves,” Varun further said.
Now this is something that we really wish had not happened. The audience would still love to watch the hit jodi come together and weave some magic on the screen. Whether it will happen soon, only time will tell!
Dancing Uncle Perfectly Mimics Govinda on ‘Main Se Meena Se’ Song
Sanjeev Shrivastava, an engineering college professor (in Bhopal), rocked the internet by perfectly mimicking Govinda’s dance moves on the song ‘Main se meena se na saki se’. The viral video impressed even Govinda.

At the age of 50, I would want to be this awesome, Flawlessly done sir. Only 90’s kids would know the stardom & impact of Govinda in one’s life. pic.twitter.com/3bGm7j6hZW

“Dance ki koi Umar nahi hoti. It is a popular saying that whatever comes from heart and whatever comes with pure emotions and feelings are priceless. When he (Shrivastava) was dancing, did he know he was going to get so famous. No, he didn’t. He must have done it just to have fun, and with the way he is dancing, I can see how much involved he is in his dance. You cannot put a price on dance and other things that come from the heart,” said Govinda after watching the video.
The professor has indeed taken the Internet by storm, as can be seen by these reactions.

Hot Poonam Pandey Unnerves Govinda
Hot Poonam Pandey unnerves Govinda, chops her song from his upcoming movie.

While Govinda may have done songs like ‘Sarkai lo khatiya jada lage’ (opposite Karishma Kapoor) in his hey days, he wanted to play it safe in his second innings.
For ‘Aa Gaya Hero’, ‘Poonam Pandey’ had shot a raunchy item number. Govinda, unaware of Poonam Pandey’s bold activities on social media (photos on Instagram, steamy videos on YouTube), got a shock when he saw Poonam’s hot video on social media, celebrating Valentine’s Day.
It disturbed Govinda so much that he decided to chop her song from his movie (didn’t want the audience to think he is doing a B-grade movie). Chi Chi’s friends and well-wishers advised him to keep Poonam out of the film, as his movies’ are family entertainers.
