Actor Inder Kumar, best known for doing supporting roles in films like Wanted (with Salman Khan), Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi and Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye, died of a heart-attack at this residence in Andheri, Mumbai.
He was just 45 years old.
A promising talent in the the early ’90s, his career seemed to be on the upswing and it seemed as if he would go on to become a star. Unfortunately, that never happened.
After a few initial flops, Inder Kumar became dependent on his relationships with established actors for more roles.
When shooting for Partho Ghosh’s film Maseeha, Inder, determined to make his mark, fell from a moving helicopter (Sunil Shetty was his co-star) as he insisted on doing the stunt himself. He was advised bed rest for three years, which practically sounded a death knell for his career.
In 2014, Inder Kumar was arrested for alleged rape of a woman, with whom Inder claimed to have had a consensual relationship (was granted bail later after spending 45 days in prison).
“When I got arrested, my daughter fell ill. My wife, Pallavi Sarraf, asked for help to bail me out, but no one came forward. She was also asked to vacate the house in just one month. It is difficult for me to get a house on rent now. My stuff is lying in a warehouse and we are living at a friend’s place. Only one person stood by us, Dolly Bindra, other than her, my wife and I didn’t receive a single phone call from anyone in the film industry,”<.em> Inder in an interview with Mid-Day in 2014.
Sonal Padiya, Inder Kumar’s first wife says the actor never got over his ex-girlfriend, Isha Koppikar and that caused a strain in their marriage. She says Inder was addicted to alcohol and drugs and even physically abused her. She left Inder while she was carrying Khushi (their daughter) and Inder did not even respond to her message when she told him he had a daughter.
On television, Inder Kumar played the role of Mihir Virani in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (took over the role from actor Amar Upadhyay and was later replaced by actor Ronit Roy).
Inder Kumar was currently working on a new film titled Phati Padi Hai Yaar.
