Film making students should get heart from this development. An Indian born Singaporean not only managed to get funds to produce his movie, his movies is also releasing in 150 screens, mostly in South India. The movie is in Tamil, but will also be dubbed in Telugu for release in Andhra Pradesh.
N Shanmuga Sundaram has produced the movie titled “Unakkenna Venum Sollu” (Tell Me What You Want) and is directed by his Sri Lankan partner, Srinath Ramalingam. The duo met in a film school in California, pursuing studies in film-making, and were keen on making a film together for a long time.
The film is a Horror film and was made on a budget of about SGD 400,000. It was shot primarily in Chennai and the producer-director casted new faces in the film, to keep the cost down. Singapore’s Media Development Authority also contributed by giving a grant of SGD 39,000 for making the film.
The good thing for the duo is that, not only did they manage to complete the film, their film will also be released in around 150 screens, mostly in South India.
Most first timers are unable to get their films screened, for various reasons (primarily due to lack of funds). So the duo should definitely rejoice, considering the fact that in India, close to thousand films compete for hundred screens every year.
We just hope that this example encourages more filmmakers to produce, and eventually release their movies on screens.
