What is the deadly VX nerve agent?
- The most potent of known chemical warfare agents, the amber-coloured, oily liquid is tasteless and odourless
- It works by penetrating the skin and disrupting the transmission of nerve impulses – a drop on the skin can kill in minutes. Lower doses can cause eye pain, blurred vision, drowsiness and vomiting
- VX can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, ingestion, skin contact, or eye contact
Officials say four North Korean men provided two women with poison to carry out the attack. While the four men fled Malaysia on the same day of the killing, the women—one from Indonesia and the other Vietnamese—were arrested.
North Korea has denied any role in the attack.
