Malang is a stylishly made film but fails to make an impact. The film has nice visuals, good soundtrack but the story line is not good enough, and a whole lot of time is wasted in setting up the story. I don’t think the movie will make enough at the box office to recover its cost.

Malang is far too long at nearly 2 hours and 15 minutes. The unconvincing plot simply doesn’t justify the indulgence. There are some moments that work, but by the end, I was wishing I’d stayed home sleeping on my palang rather than waste my time on Malang. I’m going with two out of five.

Mohit Suri misses the bus this time… #Malang works in patches, but its writing plays spoilsport, fails to grab your attention in entirety… Suspense doesn’t create the desired impact either. #MalangReview

Here’s a film which is a perfect example of how Bollywood struggles with creating a plot in which every single thread counts. Malang kicks in only after the interval, and then it becomes the film it should have been from the get-go, rapidly deploying damaged cops, emasculated men with curdled sexuality, and bad women on the prowl.

Director Mohit Suri maintains a steady grip on the narrative for most parts. In this film, none of his characters are unidimensional, which makes them interesting. The film begins well with a power-packed action scene, and dives straight into the drama. What it does lack is a tighter edit and dialogues that could elevate the narrative. Though there are two interesting twists in the plot, they aren’t as big a surprise as they should have been, which take away from its thrill quotient. The music proves to be one of its strong points, especially the title track, which stays with you even after you leave the theatre.
