Almost two months after it downed shutters, preview theatre Lightbox, owned by Farhan Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani, is open to celebs.
Even film celebrities wish to watch movies once in a while. While its possible to watch previews in Filmcity, most celebs prefer a more intimate setting.
In 2012, Farhan and Ritesh had launched the private theatre with a similar intention, so that they could let it out to industry folks who wished to host intimate gatherings. Before Lightbox was launched, most previews were either held at suburban multiplexes or in Film City.
However, since the last few months, the theater has been non-functional. It was rumoured that Farhan and Ritesh were forced to shut down Lightbox due to monetary constraints (after some of their films didn’t work at the box office). However, a source close to them blamed it on permission issues, as the building also houses other commercial establishments.
However things have been sorted now, and the theater is up and running.
Recently, the makers of Rangoon hosted a special screening for Kareena Kapoor Khan. Interestingly, the movie features Kareena’s ex-flame Shahid Kapoor, apart from hubby Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut.
Light Box Theatre is located in Santacruz. Its a superb private theatre with amazing picture and sound quality. It also houses a nice cafe. The overall ambiance is brilliant, keeping in mind the tastes of celebrities.
The place holds sentimental value for industry insiders. Sources say Shah Rukh Khan topped the list of film celebrities who wanted to resurrect the theatre.
