Rahul Dev Samra is a former model and Indian film actor, known for his unconventional, rugged looks. Besides featuring in hindi films, Rahul has acted as villain in Punjabi as well as South Indian films.
Rahul Dev, who was recently seen in the movie Mubarakan, was a big name in the modelling world, and that’s what he did most of the early 90s. Rahul was the first Indian to be featured in the London edition of “GQ” magazine. He was the face of Hugo Boss, then a big international brand.
Rahul won six awards, including a Filmfare, for his Bollywood debut in 2000 (in the film Champion where he played a villain). But Rahul says the success did not go to my head, thanks to his wife.
“I had a beautiful wife. I started dating her when I was 17, and by the age of 24, I was married. I was a lallu ram compared to her. She was a year older and very mature, and emotionally much stronger. She kept my interest all these years as she was slightly more intelligent. So, even when adulation came my way, she kept me grounded,” says Rahul.
But sadly, Rahul lost his wife to cancer a few years later.
“The loss of a parent has not been easy on my son. Every time I am away from him now, I think whether all this is worth it and if I should go back and just be a father. But then, you do think of work. It’s a Catch-22 situation; it’s difficult as a single parent.”
Rahul Dev is also quite frank about the fact that he did Bigg Boss for the money, as he had to plan for his son’ education and future.

And how was his experience in the Bigg Boss house?
Rahul says, when you’re in the Bigg Boss house, your credentials do not matter much, especially when the host is someone like Salman Khan.
Bigg Boss 10: Salman Khan scolds Rahul Dev for being lazy, Mugdha Godse not happy
Rahul Dev was at the receiving end, when Salman Khan chided him for being lazy (basically not being entertaining by playing it safe).
In the past few Bigg Boss seasons, its been observed that most participants (at the beginning of the season) avoid tasks that could get them into trouble with fellow participants, and Salman Khan has been reprimanding them in order to get them into action to make the show more interesting.
The same happened this time also as Salman lost his cool over zero participation from certain participants in various tasks and activities inside the house, one of them being Rahul Dev.
Rahul’s fiancee Mugdha Godse (acted in several hindi films) says that Salman’s advice was unwarranted and that Rahul did nothing wrong.
So why did Rahul Dev (a naturally shy and reticent person) participate in Bigg Boss 10?
For the money of course, even he admits it.
When asked why he chose a controversial show like Bigg Boss, which is completely opposite to his personality, Rahul said it was for his son, Siddharth. He divulged that his son is studying abroad and he needs the money to support his education that would hold him in good stead.
Rahul was one of the highest paid contestants on Bigg Boss (paid around Rs 2 crore.)
Rahul Dev and Salman Khan in a Bollywood film
