Ravindra Jain, also known as Stevie wonder of India, died on October 9, 2015 from old-age due to multiple organ failure. Overcoming lifelong blindness, the versatile singer and composer scored music for over 200 Bollywood films. For the last few years, Ravindra Jain had been performing concerts and composing for television music shows.
Ravindra Jain used to sing devotional songs at temples from a very young age, and before he came to Mumbai, he had already developed his skills as a singer, composer & songwriter. Now wonder, when he came to Mumbai (in the early 1970s) it didn’t take long for Bollywood filmmakers to recognize his special talents.
Some of his most melodious compositions in the 1970s and ’80s was sung by southern singing sensation K.J. Yesudas (Mr. Jain also wrote and sang most of his songs). Together, the duo were behind some of the most evergreen songs in Bollywood.
Did you know?
In 1973, he was busy recording one of his songs in a recording studio, when he received a message that his father had died. But Mr. Jain continued working in the studio, till the song was recorded, and then left for home.
Once, when Mr. Jain was asked, who was the first person he would want to see if he were to gain sight, Mr. Jain replied he would like to see “Mr. Yesudas’s face”.
In 1985, Mr. Jain received the ‘Best Music Director’ Filmfare Award for Raj Kapoor’s “Ram Teri Ganga Maili.”
Mr. Jain’s famous line, “Work in such a way with closed eyes that it can open the eyes of those who can see.”
