Over the years, the way people listen to music has changed a lot. Today, most youngsters listen to streaming music on their smartphones; then there are some who order CDs/DVDs through online shopping sites. But there was a time when you could actually walk into a store and checkout the the music collection of several artistes.
And for those living in Mumbai there was no better place to experience that other than Rhythm House, which used to be located in fort. It was also one of the oldest music stores in Mumbai. The store had a varied collection of music spanning several genres and languages.
It was common for buyers to boast to their friends that they bought a music CD from Rhythm House.
Even for artists, it was a great place to launch their music albums (to get the necessary media coverage). It was also a matter of pride if their albums were sold at the Rhythm House.
It was one of the most popular store in Mumbai and never had any other branches in Mumbai.
Sadly, due to the changed business scenario, advancements in technology, and the way music lovers hear music, Rhythm House didn’t find it economical to run its business, and had to shut down.
Rhythm House may have shut down but ask any Mumbaikar who’s fond of music, and has been living in Mumbai for years, and they will have several stories to share of their experiences at this iconic store.
