If you have seen Bollywood hindi movies from the 70s or the 80s, whenever the dialogues had to refer to the rich, the obvious examples would be those of the Tata’s and the Birla’s. A couple of decades later, Ambani’s got added to that list.
Though most Indians are aware that Mukesh Ambani (chairman of Reliance Industries) is among the richest Indians (in fact he was the richest for past few years), there are other Indian businessmen & entrepreneurs (not belonging to the Tata or Birla family either) who have managed to take their business to great heights.
And as per the latest reports, the richest Indian currently is ‘Dilip Shanghvi’, who has overtaken Mukesh Ambani as India’s richest person.
Not heard of ‘Dilip Shanghvi’ before?
Pharma tycoon Dilip Shanghvi is the founder and managing director of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, a multinational pharmaceutical company and India’s largest drug maker, headquartered in Mumbai. Sun Pharma acquired rival firm Ranbaxy Laboratories last year and will be acquiring 23 percent stake in wind turbine maker ‘Suzlon’.
Congratulations to Mr. Dilip Sanghvi.
Now that he’s in the news for being the richest Indian, lets hope people in India don’t start calling him a Narendra Modi crony (like the way they talk about Amabani’s and the Adani’s). Its high time that we get inspired by such achievement’s and avoid jealousy.
On the other hand, we just hope that Mr. Dilip Sanghvi doesn’t build another “Antilla” to flaunt his wealth.
