Probably everybody knows by now that the Salman starrer ‘Kick’ was primarily shot in Poland, but not many are aware that the director and producer of the movie ‘Sajid Nadiadwala’ checked out several other locations before zeroing in on Poland.
In the beginning, ‘Kick’ was supposed to be filmed in Japan, but because of the massive earthquake that too place there, the location had to be shifted at a short notice. The producers then shifted there attention to South Korea and were impressed with the locations available; the South Korean tourism board was also very welcoming.
Sajid said, “We were to shoot in Japan but because of the earthquake and subsequent nuclear dangers we decided to shoot for Kick in Korea instead which has some exotic virgin locales. I am disappointed we can’t shoot in Japan as we wanted to shoot a major action sequence in Tokyo Square.”
The creative team of Kick did a recce in South Korea and liked several places like Jeju Island, Gyeongbogung Palace, Yongduam Rock, Hallasan Mountain, Hyeopjae Beach and Soingook Miniature theme park in Korea. There were also rumours that Salman was planning to train in martial arts under the guidance of the famous French stunt director, Philip Guegan for the same.
However, even South Korea could not be finalized as the creative team felt they should explore more locations. Besides, Kick being Sajid Nadiadwala’s maiden directorial movie, he wanted to give his best shot to the movie.
At one time, the Kick team were also considering London for filming the movie, but then the UK government were not so keen to grant visa to Salman Khan because of the court cases that were gathering momentum again in India.
Not willing to wait any further, the ‘Kick’ team finally zeroed in on Poland and significant portions of the movie was finally shot in Poland. Salman has ever since been promoting Poland to Indian filmmakers like never before.
