Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar has earned a staggering Rs.400+ Cr. at the Chinese Box Office and is still going strong.
When Secret Superstar was released along with Golmaal Again, Aamir Khan was not worried about the competition because he felt his movie was of a different genre. And more importantly, probably he knew that the movie would do well in international markets, especially in China.
You will be surprised to know that Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar has surpassed Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai’s worldwide earnings
Secret Superstar has crossed Rs 400 crore mark in China. Add to that the gross Indian box office collection of Rs 90 crore (Rs 64 crore net) and the overseas collection from the other territories (approx Rs 65 crore). You will realise that the film has now grossed in excess of Rs 560 crore, which is more than the worldwide box office collection of Salman Khan‘s Tiger Zinda Hai (Rs 558 crore). Secret Superstar has now emerged as the highest worldwide Bollywood grosser of 2017.
Secret Superstar is doing exceedingly well in the Chinese market, thanks to Aamir Khan’s popularity and the film’s heartwarming message that has appealed to the Chinese.
Secret Superstar: A complete package that can be enjoyed with your family
Secret Superstar has done well mainly due to its positive word of mouth publicity. Ladies and families have loved the film, no wonder it has been running for so long at the cinemas. The Muslim population, in specific, identify more with the characters.

It’s 2017, yet it’s not uncommon to see that many don’t have the liberty to pursue the dream of their choice. SECRET SUPERSTAR, helmed by first-time director Advait Chandan, tells one such extra-ordinary story and emphasizes that exceptional talent can’t be hidden or suppressed – it’s bound to come to the fore some day. On the whole, SECRET SUPERSTAR is a complete package: refreshing plot, water-tight screenplay, exceptional performances and soulful soundtrack. Strongly recommended!

When Aamir Khan backs a film, you expect quality. The actor who plays an obnoxious music director, Shakti Kumaarr, in this outing, doesn’t let you down on that count. Debutant director Advait Chandan, who schooled under Aamir gives you a simple heartfelt film (slightly `fairytalish’ at times) but one in which you run the entire gamut of emotions — joy, tears, excitement and ebullience.

If there is one thing that can be blamed for it, it’s the overt melodrama. Imagine the same film without Aamir Khan and you’ll realise how Shakti Kumar has overpowered the real Secret Superstar and hence the theme of the film. Secret Superstar will still make you laugh and cry with ease. Show some appetite for drama and you have an entertainer at your service.

There is no great secret here: Secret Superstar is for every mother, daughter and human being who loves and relates to Bollywood melodrama. The film taps the genre to narrate a compelling, if familiar, tale. The portrayal of the world of a middle class Muslim family in which the women still have to subscribe to strict social codes is strikingly heartfelt. At times, it isn’t subtle. The man of the house, an itinerant engineer, is given to flying off the handle, leading to the women being subjected to verbal and physical violence.Secret Superstar is a winner notwithstanding the bumps along the way.

The deep pleasures of a simple story, simply yet eloquently told, is what makes Secret Superstar such an engaging, true watch. Till the first half. In the build-up, there is a refreshing absence of gimmicks, and diversions. Post-interval, it dips, and the result is a film which stops short of being superlative.

Aamir Khan says Secret Superstar is a bigger film than Dangal
Aamir Khan says Secret Superstar is a bigger film than Dangal. While both the movies were on women empowerment, Aamir says Secret Superstar, which is a movie about a small town teenage girl who uses the Internet to become a singing sensation, will be much bigger than his last film. Dangal was India’s highest grossing film ever (and also was hugely popular in China) so its going to be a tough ask for The Secret Superstar.
“While both are about the empowerment of the girl child, I feel it (Secret Superstar) is a much bigger film. While Dangal was about the dream of a father which a daughter fulfils, this is about the hopes and aspirations of a 14-year-old girl from a small town in India. I don’t know what the box office will be but it’s a bigger film than Dangal in what it’s trying to say,” said Khan in an interview in Singapore.
Perhaps Aamir said this to create some buzz around the film. After all, he’s also the producer of the film. In the movie, Aamir Khan plays a sleazy music producer and is named Shakti Kumaarr (I guess after Shakti Kapoor).
Kudos to Aamir Khan for this sensational film. This man doesn’t count his movies by earnings but how much it is connected to his heart.
