Thugs of Hindostan, Bollywood’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ sinks after critics pan the movie and the subsequent poor word of mouth.
The film is based on pirates who revolt against the British (reminds you of the Pirates of the Caribbean series though). The movie has good action scenes and Amitabh Bachchan almost steals the limelight from Aamir Khan. CGI is not excellent but the set-pieces are good.
Aamir Khan whose last film was the message-oriented entertainer ‘Dangal’, recently revealed in an interview that if he played an old man again in Bollywood, he may never get to play a conventional hero in Bollywood again. May be that’s what was going through his mind, when he selected this movie, because there is not enough strength in the script (and Aamir is usually very good at choosing scripts).
Star Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh
Director: Vijay Krishna Acharya (Dhoom 3 fame).
Producer: Yash Raj films
Here are reviews from other critics:
#OneWordReview…#ThugsOfHindostan: DISAPPOINTING.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
All that glitters is NOT gold… Holds true for #TOH… Some engrossing moments in the first hour, that’s about it… Formula-ridden plot, screenplay of convenience, shoddy direction are the main culprits… 👎👎👎— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) November 8, 2018
“This giant period epic turns out to be feeble, formulaic and entirely forgettable. I may be old school, but I believe pirate movies need to have eye-patches. This one doesn’t, and that’s a shame. The viewing experience would have been hugely improved. I should have gone in wearing two,” Hindustan Times.
“Big, bloated, bombastic, Thugs Of Hindostan is a period saga that banks solely upon action and spectacle for impact. The characters that populate it are, like the thousand ships that the film launches in the service of a bitter early 19th century battle between the fast-expanding British East India Company and a band of intrepid rebels who refuse to be enslaved by a foreign power, are as flimsy as cardboard. Thugs Of Hindostan barely ever hits terra firma. And when it does on the rare occasion, it fails to stay rooted long enough for those moments to make a difference,” NDTV
Thugs of Hindostan budget crosses 100-crore
Thugs of Hindostan budget crosses 100-crore, makers want to match Hollywood level visual effects.
Sources close to Yash Raj Films reveal that the film Thugs Of Hindostan’s 90-crore budget has shot up by at least 10 extra crores. No efforts and expense is being spared to turn the movie into a blockbuster with the most spectacular visual effects seen in Hindi cinema.
“There is no compromising with the budget for signing stars or for the locations where the film is being shot. The best technicians from the world over have joined hands. After Baahubali, Aditya Chopra wants Thugs Of Hindostan to shine to be the next level of showmanship from India on the global platform,” says a source close to Yash Raj.

Thugs of Hindostan: Star Cast
The movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and the Dangal girl Fatima Sana Shaikh.
So how come Aamir Khan agreed to work with Katrina, because its a known fact that Aamir doesn’t like to repeat heroines in his films?
Its because no one agreed to play Katrina’s part!
The film makers and Aamir approached several heroines for the part, but they all rejected the role.
Names like Vaani Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were doing the rounds. Vaani, after the debacle of Befikre, was praying for the role (Aditya Chopra recommended her too) but Aamir wasn’t convinced. Aamir wanted Alia Bhatt on-board but she rejected the role.
With the deadlock continuing for sometime, Aamir Khan even considered casting a much younger face for the film. And one of the names considered was Sara Ali Khan (Saif and Amrita’s daughter). Saif and Aamir had worked together in Dil Chahta Hai.

Well, it definitely would have been a dream launch for Sara, but things didn’t fall in place for her.
Finally, the makers asked Katrina to take up the role, and Katrina agreed. But Katrina has requested Aditya Chopra to work on her part, as she hardly has anything to do in the film; the makers have agreed to flesh out the role for her.
