Here’s a bizarre concert where musicians perform music under water at the AquaSonic underwater concert in Aarhus Denmark. Members of the ‘between music’ band perform with custom made instruments in a glass water tank.
The musicians submerge themsleves in glass water tanks to play instruments and sing entirely underwater, producing a different kind of music altogether.
Laila Skovmand (artistic director, music and lyrics writer, and vocalist), a pioneer in the field of aquatic music, sings both underwater and at the water’s surface. “I’m an educated singer and I wanted to explore new songs. I got the idea that if I sang into the surface of the water I might get some other timbre, some delays, so I tried that,” says Laila.
Checkout these videos, to hear the music played under water, the compositions are both eerily melodic and powerfully resonant.

AquaSonic band includes five performers who have conducted countless experiments in collaboration with deep-sea divers, instrument makers and scientists to develop highly specialized instruments that can perform in water. These include an underwater organ or hydraulophone, crystallophone, rotacorda, percussion and violin. The team also perfected a distinctive vocal technique for underwater singing.
As you can see, the result is a concert experience that is completely out of the ordinary. No wonder its making heads turn.
