Mahi V Raghav directed Yatra, based on the life of YS Rajashekar Reddy (YSR), former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, is getting good reviews from fans as well as critics.
Yatra stars Mammootty, and both the director as well as Mammootty have maintained right from the beginning that the movie is not a biopic but focuses on the padayatra.
The movie is not exactly a biopic but focuses on the series of events that took place in 2003, including the iconic padayatra (1500 km rally), that changed the course of politics in undivided Andhra Pradesh, and helped YSR become the Chief Minister.
The filmmakers have stayed away from glorifying the former CM and have shown YSR as a man and not a politician. There is no exaggeration, no melodrama, no extravagance, and things are shown in a more straight forward manner.
Mammootty does a great job essaying the former CM, without trying to imitate him.
In 2003, Congress Party was facing issues as there were early elections. And it is YSR who single-handedly won the elections with his Pada Yatra.
