India Film Fest of Alberta to Showcase Regional Indian films
The Indian community based in Alberta, keen to educate the local community about the diversity in Indian culture, have come up with a unique idea, playing regional films of India to showcase the diversity of India. That’s what the ‘India Film Fest of Alberta’ intends to do. And its definitely not going to play the commercial Bollywood films.
A brand-new concept in North America, the film festival will travel to three different cities in Alberta.
The films chosen are from different regions in India where different languages/dialects are spoken, and almost all the languages have their own movie industry. The first leg of the festival is named India Film Festival of Alberta, because the organisers also plan to tour Calgary and Fort McMurray, beginning with Edmonton.

The festival will show predominantly independent and regional movies from all over India, something that Indian expats will otherwise not be able to see in local cinema houses. The festival will also show Bengali film Pather Panchali, directed by Satyajit Ray, who received an honorary lifetime achievement Oscar in 1992.
