South Indian Actors in Bollywood: Find out who made it big, who fizzled out, and more.
Prabhas
His Baahubali movies were monstrous hits, so the audience from the hind-speaking belt already know about this handsome actor. People are now eagerly waiting to watch ‘Saaho’.
With his stardom, getting Hindi films should not be difficult at all for Prabahs (filmmakers are already eager to sign him). But whether he manages to make an impact in Bollywood as well, remains to be seen.
Rajinikanth
Superstar Rajini’s popularity spans continents. However, his popularity among non-south Indians today can be attributed more to the growth of the south Indian industry.
Because years back when he was trying to make his mark in Bollywood, he did do a few films, but the audience did not accept him. Rajinikanth did a few multi-starrer films like Andha Kanoon, Geraftaar, Chaalbaaz, Hum and Bulandi.
However today, fans go to watch his dubbed Tamil films as well. But that is because the audience has also evolved.
Kamal Haasan
Kamal Haasan was the most successful actor from the South Indian film industry in Bollywood. He wowed people with his acting, and has done several memorable films.
Ek Duuje Ke Liye, Sanam Teri Kasam, Sadma, Saagar, Chachi 420 are few of his memorable films.
Madhavan
His cinematic journey began after Mani Ratnam spotted him on television. Despite working in South India films, Madhavan has worked in several memorable Hindi films like 3 Idiots, Tanu Weds Manu (Returns), Rang De Basanti, Rehna hai tere dil mein (RHTDM). Having lived in North India for several years helped Madhavan as he speaks Hindi without any accent, an important reason he was accepted by the audience.
Prakash Raj
This immensely popular character actor from the South Indian film industry has worked in several Bollywood hit films like Wanted, Singham, Dabangg, Golmaal Returns.
He is one of the most sought after villains in Bollywood, thanks to his unique style of blending comedy in his villainous roles.
Successful Female Actors
Heroines like Hema Malini, Sridevi, Rekha, Jayaprada ruled the Hindi film industry during their heydays. In recent years, actresses like Asin have done well in Hindi films.
Actors who Failed
Several actors have also failed in their quest to make a mark in B-Town. Some of them still appear in hindi films but they have not managed to sustain themselves, and even the audience have not really accepted them.
Actors like like Kajal Aggarwal, Shriya Saran fall in that list.
Tamil superstar Vikram’s debut Bollywood film also failed at the box-office. But people still watch his dubbed blockbuster films like ‘I’ (directed by Shankar).
Then there are other actors who first tried their luck in Bollywood but when those options failed, they went to Tamil/Telugu industry and hit the jackpot there.
Actors like Tamanna, Ileana D’Cruz, Genelia D’Souza fall in that list
