For filmmakers, Sweden offers exotic, exciting and breathtaking locales that are yet untouched, unexplored and unexploited. There are several locations in Sweden that can very easily be used as a backdrop for an Indian story.
Although Swedish lifestyle is expensive, people there speak English, and the country offers state-of-the-art facilities for pre/post production. You can shoot on Stockholm streets without paying any charge (because of laws like the Right of Public Access). Sweden also has long summer days which is an advantage to filmmakers.

Bollywood Movies Filmed In Sweden
In its quest to offer the audience something new, Bollywood has even filmed in Sweden. Romantic horror sequel ‘1920: Evil Returns’ was filmed partly in Skane in the south of Sweden. The smash-hit first film ‘1920’ was filmed in north Yorkshire, UK.
Director Bhushan Patel wanted palaces, countryside, autumn, dry leaves. He wanted to explore locations that were not shown to Indian audiences before; hence Sweden.
The Oresund Film Commission also played a significant role in attracting Mumbai-based company ASA Production and Enterprises, alongside Connecting Bollywood and Solid Entertainment, both based in the Swedish city of Malmo.
Several South Indian movies have already been shot in this Scandinavian country.
Exotic Skane
Exotic ‘Skane’ is very popular with Indian filmmakers and the the number of movies filmed here is only going to grow in the future.
Parts of the romantic horror movie “1920 – Evil Returns” were filmed here, in castles and manor houses in Skane, in the winter month of November when the average temperature was around zero degrees.
Here’s trailer of ‘1920 evil returns’; the movie didn’t do as well as the prequel.
Opening Up of New Territory
Scandinavia is getting popular by the day in India. Earlier, people knew just of Stockholm and Copenhagen, but now Indians know that there’s a place called Lund, Malmo, and more importantly they know that there are film-friendly people there.
So a new territory is definitely opening up for the Indian film industry!
