Here we take a look at the top Bollywood Stars who are good singers as well, at least some of them. The rest, though not great singers, have some memorable songs to their credit.
The most recent to join this list is perfectionist Aamir Khan, who turns a rapper for the Dhaakad song in Dangal. Although Aamir has sung in films before, this is the first time he has sung a full-fledged song. This Haryanvi rap song has an earthy-yet-edgy feeling to it.
Don’t remember seeing this sing in the film? Its because this song is being used as a promotional song, and so it will not be a part of the film.
Young actresses like Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor have already sung songs in Bollywood films, and now its the turn of Sonakshi Sinha to display her vocal skills. Sonakshi will soon be making her singing debut with Aaj Mood Ishqholic Hai. Produced by T Series, the song will b a music video initially.
Bollywood actors take to singing, are playback singers insecure?
Bollywood Stars Who Turned Singers For Their Films
When the Hindi film industry was new, actors who could sing as well were preferred. Over the years talented playback singers (Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle) took over this department. However, in recent times, most filmmakers/music-directors have experimented with their singers, and at times, also given the opportunity to the lead actors to lend their voice to the song.
Some of these songs went on to become stupendous hits.
Here, we take a look at some of out Bollywood stars who turned singers for some of their films.
Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra is probably the only Bollywood star who’s taking her singing quite seriously. In fact she’s keen to make a mark for herself as a singer in the International circuit. Her ‘In My City’ and ‘Exotic’ tracks were quite popular abroad, and there are more songs lined up. Priyanka had earlier sung for the Tamil film, Thamizhan way back in 2002.

Sruti Haasan
Shruti Haasan is a trained singer and has sung several songs in South Indian films. She has sung a couple of songs – ‘Jee Le Kar Aitbar’ and ‘Aazma Luck’ in her debut film ‘Luck’ in Bollywood. She’s definitely a good singer as you can checkout in this video.

Abhishek Bachchan
There are many more songs that have been sung by Bollywood actors/actresses, although not as popular as these ones. Aamir Khan
Besides Big B, not many big stars had attempted singing earlier. It was ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ who started a new trend. Aamir Khan’s ‘Aati Kya Khandala’ from the movie Ghulam was a rage. It was the unofficial anthem of all ‘taporis’, & also increased the popularity of Lonavla & Khandala as a tourist destination.
Post this song, even the other Khans followed suit but none of their songs were as popular as this one.

Shraddha and Aditya show their musical skills on Indian Idol
Actors Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur displayed their singing skills on the Indian Idol show; the two were on the show to promote their upcoming film ‘OK Jaanu’.
The two actors sang the song ‘Humma Humma’ fro their movie, in front of the judges – Anu Malik, Farah Khan and Sonu Nigam, who were impressed as they didn’t expect them to sing so well, especially Aditya Roy Kapur who even played the guitar and displayed decent vocal skills.
So while Shraddha Kapoor has already sung several songs in Bollywood, probably you might see Aditya Roy Kapur do the same in the future.
Shraddha and Aditya then sat with the judges to look at the performances of the contestants. Being a better singer (than Aditya), Shraddha was able to give some (knowledgeable) comments on the performances.
Shraddha got emotional when one of the contestants (Bharti Gupta) sang for her deaf father, who was made to sit along with the judges. When Shraddha was in tears, father Shakti Kapoor walked in on the stage and surprised Shraddha.
