Many termed Shahid Kapoor & Alia Bhatt’s film ‘Shaandaar’ as Bollywood’s first destination wedding film. In a way it was, as most scenes looked straight out of a fairy tale, thanks to the grand castles, gorgeous beaches and beautiful wedding decor that were showcased in the film. The movie was shot in London, and the counties of Yorkshire and Durham, located towards the north of London. You get to see the beautiful rural and urban locations of Yorkshire in this Bollywood film.
‘Shaandaar’ locations (Shaandaar means majestic in Hindi) of Yorkshire captured in the movie ‘Shaandaar’
Originally, the production team of Shaandaar were planning to film in central Europe, but that changed following a recce of Yorkshire. Yorkshire’s beautiful countryside and castles convinced the creative team to shift the production to Yorkshire in UK. The crew had set up their base in Leeds, to work with local studios, facility companies and freelance crew.

What’s common between Bollywood film ‘Shaandaar’ and the famous ‘Harry Potter’ films?
It’s the Goathland Station. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, you’ll recognize the station that was shown as the pick up point of the Hogwarts Express. The station features in the film ‘Shaandaar’ as well.
The main base and the most notable location of the film was Carlton Towers in North Yorkshire, where the castle exterior played the backdrop for the majority of the film.

In the movie you get to see, popular Yorkshire locations such as Allerton Castle near Harrogate, Skipton’s Broughton Hall, Eddsfield Airfield in Driffield and Low Force Waterfall near Barnard Castle, County Durham, Goathland railway station in North Yorkshire, the beach at Saltburn-by-the-sea, the gardens and farm at Temple Newsam in West Yorkshire and Leeds’ Grand Theatre and Opera House.

Alia, who was present at the launch of Visit Britain’s Bollywood Britain – Shaandaar campaign said, “The scenic beauty of the locations, where we filmed, made me do more jogging, exercising in fresh air. So it eased me a lot for the bikini shoot. In Mumbai, we hardly get so much open place and fresh air to exercise. It was a really wonderful experience for me. Also, British people are ‘very warm’ and ‘friendly’.
VisitBritain along with Lonely Planet India, have also published the guide ‘Great Britain – The Bollywood Way’, that features popular locations in Britain where iconic Bollywood films have been shot.
And for Shahid, it means not just answering questions related to the movie, he also gets lots of questions related to this marriage, and about his better half ‘Mira Rajput’.
As Part of Shaandaar Promotion, Shahid Kapoor Talks About the Movie, His Marriage & Mira Rajput
While the film didn’t do well at the box-office, the lead actors of the movie did their bit promoting the movie. Shahid Kapoor, on his part, had to answre not just questions about the film, but also about his marriage with Mira Rajput. Shahid was more than just happy to dole out marriage advice, despite being married only for a few months.
Recently, when Sahid, along with co-star Alia Bhatt, were busy doing the promotions of ‘Shaandaar’, the audience just couldn’t resist asking Shahid about his wedding to Delhi girl Mira Rajput. That too, despite Alia instructing the audiences and media to stick to questions pertaining to the film (I guess they were anticipating questions related to Shahid’s wedding).
However, Shahid was kind enough to answer questions pertaining to his marriage. In fact, the actor answered as if he had been married for years.
Here’s what Shahid said. “Marriage is a 50-50 relationship and as long as you can keep it like that, you will sail through. Communication is very important. It’s an actual 50-50 relationship, not the one where the guy says, “I’m a man, so I’m granting you 50 per cent’ but the one where he says, ‘hum dono same hai’.”
Ever since her marriage to Shahid, Mira Rajput’s popularity has risen phenomenally. When Shahid was asked if Mira is a bigger star than him today, the actor said, “I can’t say that.” Director Vikas Bahl however said, “Yes. Mira is a bigger star than all of us put together.”
