More About Radcliffe Camera
The Radcliffe Camera (Camera, meaning “room” in Latin; colloquially, “Rad Cam” or “The Camera”) is a large circular building with a lofty dome, was designed by James Gibbs in neo-classical style and built in the seventeenth century to house the Radcliffe Science Library.
The library is named after Dr. John Radcliff, the physician who left £40,000 towards the construction of the building. The building has two large reading rooms, which are mainly used by undergraduates.
