Now here’s a filmmaker who has taken all the pain to find out locations in India that are on par with foreign locales. Filmmaker Divya Khosla Kumar’s upcoming romantic film ‘Sanam Re’ has been shot in Indian locations (most of the film has been shot in India); these are virgin locations that have not been shot before in Bollywood films.
Sanam Re Shooting Locations
The film is a romantic film and to enhance the romantic mood of the film, the director did extensive research to finalize the locations; finally, the movie was shot at virgin locations in Canada, Ladakh and Kalpa in Himachal Pradesh.
The film required a cold location, so they have shot the movie in places like Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh; the film has been shot at places like Kalpa, a small town in the Sutlej river valley in Himachal Pradesh. The film also has scenes shot at the Bishop Cotton School in Shimla.

The film also has a few scenes that were filmed in Calgary in Canada. However, most of the filming was done in India. Don’t believe so? Just take a look at this beautiful song.
Watch the title Song of Sanam Re, sung by Arijit Singh. Not only does it sound very melodious, its also shot at some really exotic locations in India.
Yami Gautam was obviously excited to shoot in Calgary (Canada), and said “The final schedule of Sanam Re will be shot at Calgary in Canada. I’m very excited about the same. I have never been to Canada before, and it will be my first visit over there”.
Why Shoot Abroad?
Although not every filmmaker might be convinced with the idea of shooting in India, director Divya Khosla opines, “I feel as an Indian filmmaker, it is my responsibility to bring out places of India which are unseen as we have so many hidden gems yet to be explored. People go to Canada and other places where they say wow, it is so beautiful. When they see actual India they would realize that our country is more beautiful than any other place in this world. I try to promote Indian locations in my films. For Sanam Re, I did a lot of research on locations, as they add to the layers to the film. It speaks a lot of emotions, so a correct location is very important to portray a film.”
There’s no doubt that the various locales have been thoroughly researched, the visuals of snow-capped mountains and the lush green plains look out of this world. Lets hope the movie goes on to be a success at the box office.
