Before we take a look at the Bollywood celebrities who became parents using unconventional methods, here are two celebrities who expressed their desire, in recent months, to become parents.
Karan Johar becomes proud father of twins (through surrogacy), Bollywood showers blessings
Filmmaker Karan Johar became a father (of twins) through surrogacy, he has has named his daughter Roohi and his son Yash, after his late father Yash Johar.
“I’ve already started imagining things like your first day at school, your first words and even your first acknowledgement of me. To tell you the truth, every single day I whisper ‘papa, papa, papa’ into your ears because I’m petrified that your first words will be in Malayalam (all our four nurses are from Kerala!)
Filmmaker Karan Johar wants to become a parent, but doesn’t know how it’s going to happen
Filmmaker Karan Johar says he has a lot of love to offer and would like to be a parent someday. “I would like to be a parent. I don’t know in what capacity, I don’t know how it’s going to happen, I don’t have answers to those questions. But I do feel the need because I have love to offer,” said Karan.
During the launch of his book, “An Unsuitable Boy”, he said “Since it (love) is there, I would like to take it forward. I feel the paternal instinct needs to be acted upon. I feel there is so much within me and the love has to have a release, it is not going into a relationship, it goes to my mother, friends, company”.
The filmmaker says he realised his nurturing quality when he launched Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan in “Student of the Year”. I feel I have a nurturing quality in me. I saw that most when I launched Alia, Sidharth and Varun. I can’t let them go off even now. It has been nearly five years but I see myself staring at what they’re doing. Even for all those at ‘Dharma’. The emotion comes from a very strong paternal space.”
Manisha Koirala Wants To Adopt a Baby Girl
Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, who battled cancer, and survived now wants to adopt a baby girl. Manisha, who has been cancer-free for over five years said “I just hope everything goes right and it all falls into place. On how she plans to raise her child, the Nepal-born actress said “I’ll pass on my wisdom and the lessons learnt out of life’s experiences to her. I’ll also teach her to appreciate the abundant beauty that lies in everything God has created”.

Union Minister Sushma Swaraj was not impressed with celebrities opting for surrogacy. While she didn’t name any of the stars, she attacked “celebrities” on Wednesday who, she said, have made surrogacy “a fashion” and “shauq” (hobby).
She said, “We have many examples of celebrities who have their own children, still they have gone for a surrogate child,” she said. She alleged they opted for surrogacy as they “don’t want to put their wives in (labour) pain”.
These celebrities show us that when it comes to having children, it’s not about how they came into this world. Instead, it’s the love and life they provide to their kids.
