Did you know that two of the biggest films in Arshad Warsi’s career, ‘Golmaal’ and ‘Munna Bhai’ series, came to him at the same time?
Arshad was shooting for ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ when Rohit Shetty approached him. Arshad could not say an immediate yes because he was already shooting, but fortunately for Arshad, the dates of ‘Lage Raho…’ got shifted and he became free to take up ‘Golmaal’. “I said yes to ‘Golmaal’ because I found Rohit very competent and I had a lot of faith in Ajay’s judgement,” said Arshad.
Is there going to be a next installment of Golmaal?
It all depends on the success of the latest film, says the filmmaker.
More trivia related to Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal movies.
Although the movie title is the same as the 1979 Gol Maal (starring Amol Palekar), in Rohit Shetty’s version, the first letters of the four lead characters in the movie — Gopal, Laxman, Maadhav, Lucky also add up to Golmaal.
Sharman Joshi was appreciated for the first movie but his disappearance from the subsequent films is still a mystery to cine fans. Its rumoured that Sharman wanted more money for the next film, and was also instigating others to increase their remuneration after the success of the first film, which led to his exit (eventually got replaced by Shreyas Talpade). Turned out to be a bad decision for Sharman, because besides 3-Idiots, he doesn’t have any other big film on his resume.
