There’s no doubt that cities like New York, London, Paris, Milan are among the most fashionable cities in the world and considered to be the traditional fashion capitals of the world. However, a recent survey done by Texas-based ‘Global Language Monitor’ seem to indicate that New York is currently the Top Global Fashion Capital.

The company mined over 250,000 online media posts and tracked the frequency of fashion buzzwords being linked to a specific city, to make their fashion capital assessment. Based on that, New York emerged at the top, Paris ranked in second place (only 0.05 per cent below New York) and London took the third place.
Even though it may not be a foolproof method (and the top cities keep on changing every year), there’s no doubt that New York city is top up there.
Post World War II, New York City rose in stature as a fashion capital, challenging the dominance of Paris. However, unlike Paris, it focused more on the development and popularisation of sportswear as fashion during the 1940s and ’50s. Today, its home to all types of apparel, from the most rarefied and expensive haute couture and designer fashions to ordinary everyday clothing.

New York Fashion Week, held in February and September each year, is among the major fashion weeks in the world. During this week, international fashion collections are shown to potential buyers, and to the general public. The fashion week consists of numerous branded events.
