Though many of you might assume that the US is the richest country in the world, the fact is that it doesn’t even figure in the top 5 richest countries in the world.
Here are the top ones, based on GDP (gross domestic product) per capita. Some of them are naturally gifted with huge abundance of reserves, whereas some had to work their way to the top.
Not only is the infrastructure good in these countries, the standard of living and the social welfare system in these countries is also very good.
And the best part is that they are all small countries that can be covered during one visit.
Qatar
Qatar, an oil rich country, is the richest country in the world. Major part of its income comes from oil export (pearl-mining used to be big before the discovery of oil/gas).

Ruled over the years by a single royal family, its competitively open trade policies with the US have made Qatar the wealthiest nation in the world. Luxembourg
Richest in Europe, and among the smaller countries in Europe (difficult to find it even on the map). Known for providing international banking services to the rest of the world, Luxembourg also has huge iron and steel companies.

Singapore
It may no longer be the most sought after tourist destination for Indians, though its still quite popular. Legal structure is strict, yet one of the best. Has great transportation system. The country is also known for its education system. Bollywood movies shot in Singapore…

Norway
I’m sure this one would be on the wish-list of many Asian tourists, as its far off, and also among the lesser known destinations in Europe.

Rich in forests & natural beauty, the country has extensive petroleum, lumber, mining and fisheries reserves. Norway (land of the rising sun) is also one of the safest countries in the world, and has an excellent social welfare system.
Hong Kong
Hong Kong in a special administrative region of China, and a global powerhouse in world economics and politics. Its wealth comes from finance, trade and commerce. Bollywood movies shot in Hong Kong…
