Top 10 Best Places to Visit in India

June 5, 2015 by BollywoodPresents Team

Popular filming locations in India

Its not that all the Indian filmmakers are only rushing to foreign locations to shoot their films, there are many who have shot extensively in India and captured the varied landscape of this beautiful country.

India has several historical buildings, old cities, and natural beauty to offer to tourists and filmmakers.

Here are the top 10 best places to visit, in India.

Kerala

Gods own country…kerala is one of the top tourist destinations in Asia. Its also rated among the top 10 paradises of the world by National Geographical Traveler. There are several great things to see and experience, however the backwaters in Alleppey is really worth experiencing. Kerala is famous for its beaches, backwaters, and natural beauty. Another good thing about this place is its cleanliness and its friendly people.

If time permits, you should also visit Kanyakumari (also known as Cape Comorin) where the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal meet. Sunset & sunrise are spectacular, and its one of the best places in India to enjoy moments of solitude.

Rajasthan

Rajasthan (Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer) is rich in culture and famous for historic buildings. Rajasthan is definitely one of the most charming tourist destinations in India (even for Indians actually). Golden sand dunes, formidable forts, beautiful palaces, wildlife, adventure, culture, music & dance, handicraft, art, Rajasthan has plenty to offer!

Agra

Agra, located around 200 Kms from Delhi, is most famous for the ‘Taj Mahal’. This white domed marble mausoleum is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and has an epic love story behind it. Its the most visited city in India, and besides the Taj Mahal, you can also see Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Fort, Akbar’s tomb, Ram Bagh and Sikandra fort when you’re visiting Agra.

Agra, Taj Mahal

Ladakh

Ladakh is one of the most sparsely populated regions in Jammu and Kashmir and shares its borders with Tibet (on the east). Ladakh is renowned for its remote mountain beauty and culture. It is sometimes called “Little Tibet” as it has been strongly influenced by Tibetan culture. The largest town in Ladakh is Leh. Ladakh is a plateau in the Indus Valley and is located about 3 km above the sea level.

Ladakh

Kashmir

Paradise on Earth, go and meet the mountains and mingle with the clouds. Major attractions in Kashmir include its scenic beauty, snow clad peaks, lush green valleys, alpine villages, cascading waterfalls, flower gardens, and more. During winter season, you can also enjoy a boat ride in the picturesque Dal Lake. The other major attractions are Gulmarg, Srinagar, Sonmarg, Nagin Lake, Pari Mahal, Shankracharya shrine and Pehalgam. This hilly region is not only one of the most beautiful places in India, but also in the world, though places like Srinagar can be crowded & noisy. Normalcy has returned to the valley with several Bollywood productions being filmed in the Valley.

Kashmir

Goa

Goa is famous for its beautiful beaches, golden sand and coconut palms playing with the wind, and is one of the most visited places by foreigners. Among the smallest states in India, its also very easy to travel within the state from one place to another. Mouth-watering seafood, several kinds of water sports make the beaches of Goa even more fun. Alorna Fort, Chapora Fort, Calangute beach, Aguada fort, Ancestral Goa Museum, Arvalam Waterfalls, are some of the attractions in Goa. During the peak season, however, you could experience the locals to be more warm towards (and favoring) foreigners, obviously to make more bucks.

Goa

Darjeeling

Darjeeling (also known as the ‘Queen of the Hills’) is a hilly region in the north-east with some beautiful national parks. You get a clear view of the world’s third highest peak, Kanchenjunga from here. Its also world famous for its ‘teas’.

Darjeeling

If you’re fond of mountains and prefer to visit a hilly region, then few other options worth exploring are Kulu/Manali & Shimla (in Himachal Pradesh), and the Kumaon/Garhwal hills (in Uttaranchal).

Delhi & Mumbai

Most tourists spend a day or two in Delhi (capital city of India), because its near to Agra, and also a convenient stop before proceeding to Himachal & ladakh. Places to see in Delhi include India Gate (the national monument of India), Jama Masjid, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Red fort, Qutub Minar.

Mumbai, on the other hand, is the financial capital of India, and home to Bollywood. Those who’re interested in shopping will like Mumbai (similar to Chandigarh) for its malls & for its street shopping (Colaba & Bandra).
