For those who are old enough, I’m sure you would have seen this song ‘Aage Aage Topaiko Gola’ (featuring Asha Bhosle and Danny Denzongpa) as a kid on Doordarshan in the early 80’s. It’s a hit Nepali song from the 70s.
Danny Denzongpa has sung several songs in various languages, and this happens to be one of the popular ones. Mind you this is a Nepali song (and not Sikkimese, in case you’re wondering as Danny is from Sikkim).
And do checkout the remix version as well, by Pradesh Limbu. Its cool, amusing, and also gives you a hint as to what the song is about (the ‘Topaiko Gola’ is the girl ofcourse).
If you play the flute or are learning to play the flute, this could be another song in your repertoire.
By the way, there’s already a Bollywood version of this song (featuring Rajesh Khanna, sung by Lata Mangeshkar & Kishore Kumar).
Here are the lyrics of the song ‘Aage aage topaiko gola’:
Pachhi pachhi machine gun barara
Cigrate nadeu ma bidi khanelai
Maya nadeu muhidi jaanelai
Ukaaliko chiso paani
Khaideu khaijaau laagchha
Mathlo gharko tarunilai
Laijau laijau laagchha
Dumsi lukne dulo
Balla balla paako chhoro
Tauko matra thulo
Aage aage topaiko gola
Pachhi pachhi machine gun barara
Cigrate nadeu ma bidi khanelai
Maya nadeu muhidi jaanelai
