“She is one of the finest actors of Indian cinema. When Shabanaji gets emotional, she rips the screen apart,” Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
“I was never comfortable working in commercial films. But yet, I loved working with Manmohan Desai so much so that when he asked me to do a character in Amar Akbar Anthony despite telling me that I had virtually no role in it, I did not think twice. ‘I am pushing you in AAA simply because nahin toh Vinod Khanna meri jaan kha jayega that why he doesn’t have a girlfriend in the film like Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor have,’ he told me. In Parvarish, Neetu Singh and I were hanging from a well made at RK Studios and we had to stand above a few crocodiles waiting to eat our feet. Imagine! Art cinema is easier to do as situations in it are closer to real life.
