Gully Boy is about Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and its great music. But there is one more person who is winning hearts – Siddhant Chaturvedi, aka MC Sher, who made his Bollywood debut in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy. In the movie, MC Sher is the character who motivates Ranveer to go all out for his dreams (we all need a friend like him in real life).
In Gully Boy, he is no less than Ranveer Singh in terms of energy, screen presence, acting skills (every-time they come together on screen).
Zoya first saw Siddhant dancing at the success party of Inside Edge (an Amazon Prime show), and suggested that he audition for Gully Boy. She called him for an audition the very next day and asked him to check out the music of rappers like Divine and Naezy and memorise a rap song for the audition.
Impressed by the rap songs of Divine and Naezy, Siddhant could relate to their struggles and decided to stay up all night and write his own rap song based on his personal struggles. Zoya loved the audition and offered him the role. Siddhant says his MC Sher character in Gully Boy (mentor to Ranveer Singh) is not based on either Naezy or Divine, but is a mix of various rappers.
Chaturvedi started his career with a youth centric sitcom called Life Sahi Hai by Luv Ranjan (director of Sonu ke Titu Ki Sweety) followed by Amazon’s first Indian-American web series Inside Edge (which earned him good reviews). Siddhant has also acted in several TV commercials, including an International Coca-Cola ad campaign. Besides acting, Siddhant is trained in Western and Classical dance, Martial Arts and Parkour. His other hobbies include writing poetry and painting.
I guess, you will see more of him now in Boollywood after his MC Sher act in Gully Boy.
